It was an opportunity to see everyone in action and University of Hawaii at Hilo coach Daphne Honma made the most of it in beating the Alumni 80-59 in the UHH gymnasium.

Fifteen players saw action in the Vulcans’ first look at an opponent.

Kayce Kirihara led the Vulcans with 12 points while Hina Kimitete added 11 points.

“I don’t know if we’re going to substitute as often but it’s good to know I have the numbers to use,” Honma* said. “We’re looking to go inside and out and we didn’t get enough of that tonight. Once we understand that and can get the ball working, we’ll have a lot better rhythm and looks on the offensive end.

“We were too perimeter oriented tonight and we can work on that. I saw a lot of good things. At least we know we’re going to get the looks on the outside and we’ve got to do a better job of nailing them.”

Krystlelyn Omlan showed she still loves to shoot from long-range with a 6-for-15 night from 3-point range to lead the Alumni with 22 opints. Jessica Hanato went inside for a tough 17 points and 11 rebounds.
