The University of Hawaii at Hilo beat Dominican University 3-0 in a Pacific West Conference match in UHH gymnasium.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-19, 25-11.

The 19th-ranked and PacWest leading Vulcans are 20-1 overall and 10-1 in the conference while the Lady Penguins are 4-19 overall and 0-10 in the Pac West.

Kawena Cubi-Otineru led the Vulcans with 11 kills and a .625 attack percentage. Josimara Pinheiro had 10 kills and 13 digs while Morgan Bonney added 10 kills with a .500 attack percentage.

"Again, I thought we started a little slow in each one of the sets," UHH head coach Bruce Atkinson said. "You know we were pretty comfortable with the way we played. We were trying a few different combinations that we haven't used and we've been working on in practice. You know for the first time they did a pretty good job at it and I think if we give them a couple more days to practice them, it'll run a little more smoothly the next time we come out."

"Katie (Swenson) did a really good job of creating one-on-one hitting situations. I think that's all you can ask from a setter. If you can only have two hands in the face of one of our hitters then we've put the pressure on the hitter to put that ball away. I thought she did well in that regard and I thought our hitters did well staying aggressive."
