The University of Hawaii at Hilo came out hot to knock of Notre Dame de Namur University 3-0 in a Pacific West Conference match in the UHH gymnasium.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-13, 25-23.

The Vulcans are 19-1 overall and 9-1 in the PacWest while the Argonauts are 8-15 overall and 5-4 in the PacWest.

Kawena Cubi-Otineru led the Vulcans with 10 kills and a .692 attack percentage.

"One of the things, I'm most pleased with is that we started out the set with the first few points something we've struggled with this year," UHH head coach Bruce Atkinson said. "It didn't matter if it was the best or worst teams we've played, we've struggled getting the first few points and dug us a hole to begin with."

The Vulcan jumped out quickly in games one and two with hitting percentages of .538 and .450. With the team running hot, Atkinson gave his starters time on the bench.

"We got a lot of people in and were able to rest Josi [Pinheiro] and Fabi [Seben]," Atkinson said. "I think they played well enough for us to pull out the victory. I think they have the potential to do better but a lot of it comes down to us putting them into situation more often so they feel more comfortable swinging away right away.

"It's very difficult coming off the bench cold when you don't have a tremendous amount of time on the court."
