Last second score snuffs Red Storm
Saturday, October 10th, 2009
With time running out, the University of Hawaii at Hilo used some nifty passes and dribbling to steal a 1-0 win from Dixie State Collegein Pacific West Conference action in St. George, Utah.
The Vulcans improved to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest while the Red Storm fell to 3-5-1 overall and 1-4 in the PacWest.
“We won on the last second,” UHH head coach Cam Camarena said. “*Jaaziel [Garcia]* had the ball and put up a long ball to Luis [Segovia]. Eddie [Gutierrez] broke through the defense, got the ball, dribbled for four seconds then went one-on-one with the goalie and scored.
“It was just a very good play and passing.”
Offense didn’t have much of a role in the match as only 14 total shots were recorded (UHH 5, DSC 9) and only six shots on goal. Fouls were minimal with UHH tagged for nine and Dixie for six.
“Everybody played with a lot of intensity,” Camarena added. “This was probably the most complete game we’ve played.”
