The University of Hawaii at Hilo opened a two-match swing through St. George, Utah with a 3-1 victory over Dixie State College in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21.
The Vulcans are 16-0 overall and 6-0 in the PWC while the Red Storm is 10-5 and 4-1.
"It was a hard fought match," UHH head coach Bruce Atkinson said. "We went in and out of maintaining our ball control, especially in the first set and a half. But credit goes to Dixie State, they put up a great block and were very scrappy defensively."
Kawena Cubi-Otineru led the way with 17 kills and a .343 attack percentage. Fabiane Seben added 14 kills while Morgan Bonney tallied 13 kills and three block assists.
The back row played a big role in the match as four players recorded double-digit digs – Lauren Tonokawa (18), Josimara Pinheiro (18), Shawna Kaiura (14) and Laura Rodriguez (13) as the Vulcans recorded 84 total digs.
