4-0 in PacWest
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
The University of Hawaii at Hilo struggled with their service game but held on to beat Grand Canyon University 3-1 in the Pacific West Conference match in Phoenix, Ariz.
Set scores were 27-29, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-18. The Vulcans improved to 14-0 overall and 4-0 in the PacWest while the Antelopes are 9-5 and 0-3.
"The glaring thing we need to work on is service errors," UHH head coach Bruce Atkinson said. "We cleaned up a lot but had 10 in the first two games. We just served way too many out of bounds."
Kawena Cubi-Otineru led the Vulcans with 16 kills on 27 attempts with 5 errors for a .407 attack percentage. Fabiane Seben and Josimara Pinheiro had 14 kills each. Leilani Ramsey had 10 kills on 18 attempts with one error for a .500 attack percentage.
Seben also added three solo blocks and four block assists.
