Two Costly Mistakes

Back-to-back miscues led to the University of Hawaii at Hilo falling behind quickly in a 2-1 loss to Brigham Young University-Hawaii in a Pacific West Conference match held on Keaau High School field in Keaau, Hawaii.

The Vulcans are 2-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the PWC while the Seasiders are 4-1, 2-1.

After giving up a goal just nine minutes into the game, one errant pass off of the tip and Vulcan goalie Shanna Brown found herself on the losing end of a one-on-one.

“They get around her and nine seconds later we give away a silly goal,” UHH head coach Cam Camarena said. “Our defense is solid unfortunately we had two mistakes. We had a moment of last year where they put their head down and lost their composure and fighting spirit.”

Gina Tumasone brought the Vulcans a goal closer with her 53:01 goal that went over the goalie and into the net.

“It was a great goal,” Camarena said. “I need to move her up top. The other thing I did was have Jolene Crook mark Natasha [Aiono] who I think is the best player in the conference. She totally took her out of the game.
