The University of Hawaii at Hilo is ranked third regionally and 30th nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's pre-season poll.

ITA Ranking

Ranked among the top 20 singles in the region are senior Kevin Tamura (7th), junior Stephen Royalty (15th) and sophomore Justin Dugan (16th).

Now there's hardware in addition to the good memories for the University of Hawaii at Hilo men's tennis team.

On Tuesday, UHH coach Kula Oda was named the West Region Coach of the Year, after his squad almost had a storybook ending, finishing a hair away from going to the NCAA Division II national tournament.

Laie, HI—In an epic match, the 28th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s tennis team defeated 29th-ranked UH-Hilo today, 5-4, at the NCAA II West Regional Tournament to earn a trip to the NCAA II National Championships next week. The Seasiders and Vulcans, who met four times during the season with each team winning twice, played five-and-a-half hours today before the Seasiders finally outlasted the visitors.
